Sam Raimi viré de Spider Man 4 !!!

Avant d’aller dodo, une dernière petite bombe lâchée par Variety : selon le fil web du magazine, Spider-Man 4 se fera sans Sam Raimi, ni Tobey Maguire.  (EDIT : la primeur de l’info est en fait venue du site Deadline Hollywood de Nikki Finke). Sony aurait décidé de remodeler en profondeur la franchise et souhaiterait repositionner le récit de Spider Man 4 durant les années lycée de Peter Parker.

Non content d’avoir été responsable du naufrage artistique de Spider-Man 3, le studio semble vouloir faire porter le chapeau à Raimi et donner une orientation plus franchement teenage à notre tisseur chéri au cinéma. Navrant. Ou pas ?

Pour l’instant, c’est vers l’excellent site Deadline Hollywood et ses infos exclusives qu’il faut se tourner pour un récap’ des événements qui ont conduit à l’annonce d’aujourd’hui.

Le site confirme tout d’abord que le prochain Spider Man sortira plus probablement, non pas en 2011 comme prévu mais en 2012 (« Ach, z’est l’année où on va douss mourir ! » me hurle mon pote Rolland) et ce pour deux raisons : avoir suffisamment de temps pour constituer une nouvelle équipe (casting, réal’ etc…) et préparer un tournage en 3D.

Citant des sources internes à Sony, Deadline Hollywood explique que Sam Raimi se serait de lui-même désengagé de Spider Man suite à d’interminables soucis sur le scénario, courant depuis plusieurs mois. L’auteur d’Evil Dead aurait répété aux cadres du studio à plusieurs reprises qu’il « détestait » la version du script co-signée par Jamie Vanderbilt, David Lindsay-Abaire et Gary Ross et qu’il attendait une nouvelle version remaniée par Alvin Sargent, auteur du scénario de Spider-Man 2 et 3. La date de début des prises de vue de Spider Man 4, initialement fixée à février 2010, fut repoussée à mars, puis avril… puis sine die apprenait-on la semaine dernière, au vu des difficultés persistantes autour du script.

Au cours d’une réunion qui s’est tenue ce lundi à Los Angeles, Sam Raimi aurait tout simplement dit : « C’est fini, je ne peux pas tenir vos délais, je ne peux plus avancer créativement ». Pour la co-présidente de Sony Pictures Amy Pascal et Matt Tolmach (président de Columbia Pictures), la seule solution était dés lors de rebooter entièrement la franchise Spider Man plutôt que de faire remplacer Sam Raimi sur un Spider Man 4. Deadline Hollywood affirme également que Tobey Maguire a appris la nouvelle au téléphone par Amy Pascal en personne – « Il n’était pas spécialement bouleversé » précise la source du site.

Quant à Sam Raimi, il a maintenant deux options : soit se lancer dans la colossale franchise World of Warcraft, soit tâter plutôt de la fresque historique avec l’adaptation du roman The given day de Dennis Lehane (l’auteur de Mystic River et Shutter Island).

Voici en attendant le communiqué officiel de Sony Pictures (en anglais). La sortie du prochain Spider Man pour l’été 2012 est confirmée, ainsi que le retour aux années lycée de Peter Parker. Pour le reste, c’est le bla-bla habituel « c’était génial de bosser avec Sam et Tobey »…. mais bon on les vire quand même !

Culver City, CA (January 11, 2010) — Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

The new chapter in the Spider-Man franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.

“A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter’s roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning,” said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,” said Sam Raimi.

“We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade.This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine Spider-Man in anyone else’s hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable,” said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio’s chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. “Now everything begins anew, and that’s got us all tremendously excited about what comes next. Under the continuing supervision of Avi and Laura, we have a clear vision for the future of Spider-Man and can’t wait to share this exciting new direction with audiences in 2012.”

The studio will have more news about Spider-Man in 2012 in the coming weeks as it prepares for production of the film.
